What is Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the next generation of Analytics that collects event-based data from websites and apps. GA4 is a new kind of property designed for the future of measurement.

There are two kinds of properties:

  1. Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID: G-XXXXXXX)

  2. Universal Analytics (Tracking ID: UA-XXXXXX-X)

Universal Analytics properties will stop processing data on 1 July 2023.

What action do you need to take?

Follow the GA4 Assistant when logged into your Google Analytics account or follow the steps in this Google Help Centre guide to migrate to GA4. You'll create a new GA4 property and (if relevant) migrate your goals to GA4.

What happens if you have a UA property but don't take any action?

If you do not migrate by 1 July 2023, a new GA4 property will automatically be created for you by Google Analytics (unless you have opted out), and your Universal Analytics configurations will be copied to the new GA4 property.

Not all configurations in Universal Analytics have an exact equal in GA4 (eg. custom dimensions and metrics). As a result, the configurations in your new GA4 property may not be a complete copy of all your Universal Analytics settings.

What action do I need to take in Springnest Admin?

Springnest supports both types of properties, but we highly recommend using Google Analytics 4, as Universal Analytics will stop processing data on 1 July 2023.

Once you have your new GA4 property, you can use this guide here to update your Google Analytics Measurement ID.
